These days, my job-description as a Potentialist, that is someone who helps bring out the new Paradigm of what is positive, possible and powerful, seems to be mainly to bring GOOD NEWS! And here it is!

All over the world, unprecedented numbers of people in all walks of life and of all ages, want to live their lives with more integrity, joy, authenticity, responsibility, harmony and heart. Why? Because the world is changing dramatically and hence our personal and collective responses to it, and roles in it, are changing also. This may well be because even in this complicated life, we still tend to feel there is a benign “Big Picture” and that everyone is an integral living part of it, even though many of us actually have been made to feel like helpless cogs in the big machine instead.

But see what is happening when you look around you.

We have been increasingly realizing that we all have a part in shaping, and ultimately creating, our reality by the way we think and feel. In fact, I have found that we all have the starring creator role in our lives - at every moment - because of how we perceive the present and actualise its limitless potential. This puts us slap-bang centre stage of our own reality. The logic behind this, in other words, goes like this: my life is exactly as I decide to see it, NOW. We can all choose how to use the past as lessons for today, but I personally have the choice to continue to accept my life as I have in the past, or change it to how I would prefer to see it in all its potential – and live it!

And that's the good news!

“GET REAL!” I hear folks say. “ You should stand in MY shoes and see how you go!”

Precisely! We need Potential, not Problems!

Maybe change shoes?? Maybe see things differently? If one's goal is to be happy, one needs to learn to find out what really “rings true” in one's existence - to guide the way.

Maybe by learning to “hear” existence with different ears, the ears-of-the-heart, will help. For example, “listening” to what you really deep down feel to be true instead of believing what you hear yourself saying at times, can be useful.

Maybe “Walking your talk” is not a game, but a guide towards a life of authenticity.

Maybe “seeing” with the different eyes-of-the-soul will help: it can show how much true strength and happiness there is in seeing, appreciating, developing and sharing one's own creative gifts and talents - of whatever nature and size they might be. In the Big Picture of our existence, they all have their role to play.

Maybe “feeling” from a deep place of connectedness-in-spirit instead of one of difference, separation or fear, is a good place to start. For example, travel can foster understanding and compassion, break through some of the fear of the unknown, through enabling the traveller to see life from other perspectives than one's own, thus increasing awareness of our similarities and mutual enjoyment of new and exciting realities.

Of course, loving relationships are a gold mine for insights into what feels right, and how limitless we really are….

But maybe, just by using a different filter, a “potentialist” one for what is found in life, a filter composed of trust and positivity, what is REALLY important will emerge and provide further tools for the creation of your starring role in your life.

Whatever the process, success can happen in an instant, or over a period of time.

But it's ALL GOOD NEWS!

A Personal Journey from Powerlessness to Potentialist

My own journey was not of the instant-success kind, I have to say!

Until I was in my late twenties, I felt pretty powerless, confused and alone. This was mainly because in my childhood, Europe was in chaos in the aftermath of war; my later schooling years were spent learning English in England, where my family lived in cultural isolation; and also because of my discovery that returning to one's country of origin does not guarantee a feeling of belonging either. However, my introduction to the wonderful cultural domain of the English language was the doorway to my, and others', inner world, and thus the seeking and sifting and shifting of realities began. Indeed, it has been the underpinning of what is important to me in my whole life!

In my mid-twenties, I decided to travel more extensively than before both outwardly and inwardly so I headed for Australia in 1968, with 2 teaching degrees and three teaching years in various countries, behind me. I worked everywhere, seeking much but “knowing” little, doing all kinds of jobs in all kinds of environments among different kinds of folks with different values and beliefs. I married and had a beautiful daughter, whom I love dearly. Working and playing hard for ten years or so, I “did” political activism, academia, yoga/alternative life-styles and education, restauranteuring, media production, creative pursuits of various kinds, Special Education…and “undid” marriage! The decade or so after that was not much different: I juggled finances some more, went to courses, read everything I could of spiritual nature, had a great cruisy social life, rocked some boats - and made a lot of positive difference to a lot of people. But I still felt out of the real action…stuck in the shallows somehow.

1990 was a pivotal year: I had decided to take matters in hand and externally do my Honours degree based on “ Re-Connecting the Dis-Connected”- which pretty well summed up my life-intention at the time. In actual fact, it also marked the start of my new Paradigm of positivity, possibility and power, though I didn't realize it at the time.

I was posted to Shark Bay, Western Australia to teach. There, just happening to be passing through, was a man who loved all things natural, especially children; who rang true to me through his music; relished language and humour as much as I did; was on a similar spiritual quest as I was, and equally happily journeyed both sensitively inwards and globally outwards. I found him to view change and challenge as a source of growth and diversity, as a rich source of experience rather than a lack of specialisation. A fellow traveller indeed! We joined forces, and our website gives an indication as to some of our activities old and very new, as individuals and as the Starlight Couple.

Speaking personally, I feel in the middle and the potential of life, but our lives are like currents in a river freely running its natural course, gathering to itself all kinds of tributaries, nourishing where there is a need, dealing with impediments, growing in strength and depth as it nears its destination, flowing ultimately back to its source - where potential ultimately is limitless.

And so, back to you!
